Don’t Covet
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor’s.
It is said that covetousness is the spring of discontent – the foundation of sin.
“If I only had that house! If that car was mine! If she was my wife instead of his! If I could have the latest cell phone!” These words stem from not appreciating what we have, and demonstrate envy at what we have not.
This commandment forbids the feeding of the appetite of our corrupt nature. It aims squarely at the lust of the flesh, which leads to many of the other sins such as theft, adultery, and even murder.
Be content – godliness with contentment is great gain
