No False Witness
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
This commandment forbids you from speaking falsely against your neighbor in any matter and in any context.
Although we may believe that this standard only applies to judicial matters such as in a courtroom, it specifically covers lying and any other way devising to deceive our neighbour.
If you slander, backbite, or speak unjustly against him or against his reputation, even in common conversation; if you are looking to your own reputation upon the ruins of your neighbour’s, you have broken this commandment.
Watch your words, remember that we shall be held accountable for every idle word we speak
